|  | Signoria Square Centre of the political and social life of the city for centuries, it is without a doubt the most beautiful square of Florence, built upon the ruins of the Ghibelline homes, of the 13th century. |  | Giardini di Boboli Found on the Boboli hill, between Pitti Palace and the Belvedere Fort, it is said to be one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy. Magnificent panoramic view of Florence. The Boboli Gardens, 1550-88, The entrance may be found in Piazza Pitti. Designs for the Italian style garden were begun by Tribolo and continued after his death in 1550 by Ammannati, and was created as part of the palace itself. The elaborate architecture of the Grotte was by Buontalenti. The gardens reached their actual size of 45,000 square metres in the seventeenth century.

|  | Gallery of the Uffizi The Uffizi Gallery covers an area of about 8.000 sq.m.. and contains one of the most important collections of art of all times, including classical sculpture and paintings on canvas and wood by 13th to 18th century Italian and foreign schools. The Gallery of the Uffizi was also the first museum ever to be opened to the public: in fact the Grand Duke granted permission to visit it on request from the year 1591. |  | Fountain of Neptune In the Unita' d'Italia square is the Fountain of Neptune where the statue had been placed until 1934 in the so called area of the "palazzata" near the old fish-pond. The work by Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli (1557) has suffered a great deal of damage during the Bourbon bombardments of 1848 and has been the object of restorations and substitutions; it no longer has the original step base and is erected on a large octagonal basin; the pedestal in the middle is decorated with the mythical chained figures of Scylla and Charybdis; on the top the figure of Neptune and of Scylla with his trident in the posture of placating the sea.
