 | | Giuseppe Mazzini Born in Genoa in 1805, Giuseppe Mazzini quickly proved that he was a very precocious individual. At just 15 years of age Mazzini enrolled at the University, and at 21 he wrote the essay “Dell’amor patrio di Dante” (Dante’s Patriotic Love). On October 26 he obtained a degree in “Jure Utroque”, and he then enlisted in the “Carboneria”. After a period of writing and traveling in Liguria and Tuscany, Mazzini was sent into exile. He first went to Geneve and then to Marseilles. It was in Marseilles that Mazzini founded the “Giovine Italia”, which Giuseppe Garibaldi also adhered to and supported. Mazzini’s goal was to create a nation which would be: “Una, indipendente, libera, repubblicana” (one, independent, free, and republican). He tried to win over Carlo Alberto, Vittorio Emanuele II, and Cavour with his Republican creed, and he worked tirelessly to this end until his death in 1872. hotel rome hotelcosmopolita grandi autori euroclub |
